Omission of Sin

Omission of Sin

Matthew 23:23 – Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

James 4:17 – Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

The omission of sins in our world today has been ignored in many cases. One of the reasons behind this is because of “love.” You might say, “How is this possible because of love?” Love has given us access to acceptance. While this is true, that God’s love for us has given us forgiveness through Jesus Christ’s blood, also brought about the idea that because God is love, He loves me, He wants me to be happy. This has created the concept that we can live how we want because God’s love supersedes the rest.

This idea will lead many into living a life of lukewarm faith and eventually becoming like the Pharisees we see in the Bible. Ones that say they believe, but their actions are the opposite — they ignore anything that does not fit their wants and desires and accept only what helps them. Jesus states that these people were vipers.

Another reason why the omission of sin has been able to grow is because many churches today no longer preach against sin and many times it’s not even brought up much. Instead we preach encouragement and love.

Now, preaching of encouragement or love is not wrong, but just as encouragement and love has its place, the preaching of sin does too. The whole gospel revolves around repenting of our sin and coming to Christ. This can only happen once we have accepted there IS sin in our life, and we have sinned against God. For us to become closer to God we must know what sin is, and what we must remove from our lives every single day. To become more holy and this is how we can become even closer to God. This means that we must hear what sin is, how to run from it, and how to defeat it.

Many believe that if we encourage and talk about love that the rest will solve itself this is not true. What I am stating is that we are no longer saying that “sin is sin.” This allows more people to live according to what they believe is right in their own ways. This is why so many people believe there is a grey area.

On top of this, if we only preach encouragement and love, how can they know what is sin? And if they don’t know what is sin, they are potentially bringing death into their lives through the action of sin. We will see that Jesus Christ, our Lord, always acknowledged where there was sin and brought it to light, and He speaks against it.

This is what the Word of God teaches us. Because God is love, He must also hate (Proverbs 6:16-19). YES! There are things that God hates!

Matthew 23 talks about the Pharisees and scribes, calling them hypocrites. For they were willing to pay tithe of mint and cummin, but they were ignoring or omitting other parts of the law of judgment and lacking mercy and faith. Jesus states that they should have done these as well and not leave any undone.

In our time, what we see is people that believe that if they come to what we call ‘church,’ that they are doing good, and the sins in their life can be omitted because God forgives. But here we see that this is not true. On top of this, we also get people that believe that if you give money to the church (as the Pharisees and scribes) that you are important and doing your duty as a Christian — even if you do not live according to how you should or omit other transgressions in your life.

James 4:17 says that if we know good and do not do it, it becomes a SIN to us. This means that if we know what is right in front of God but decide not to do it, our God accounts this to us as a sin. WOW, that is big.

Think about this.

If you know what is right and don’t change, God accounts this as sin in your life even if it’s the non-act of you calling out your brother or sister in Christ and keeping them accountable for what is wrong (Matthew 18:5). We also know that sin brings spiritual death into our lives.

To sum: if we know what is right and don’t change, it becomes sin in our life that brings spiritual death and we shall not enter the kingdom of God.

This should be a warning to ALL, that we must be vigilant to the truth and make sure that when we find out there is sin among us or we are in the wrong with God, that we must challenge it and change to bring about spiritual life with God and not death.

Look at your life, see where you stand. Are you in one of the sins, transgressions or iniquities listed below:

Hatred – of family, friends, brothers, sisters, world
Lies
Procrastination -always saying another time or another day
Love – love can be wrong if it is in addiction, homesexually, fornication, adultery, tolerance
Jealousy
Murder – this can include murder with your tongue
Omission -thinking that other actions in your life will bring coverage over sins
Hypocrisy
Gluttony
Gossip
Lack of Modesty
Worldliness – in your action, language, clothing, appearance
Addiction -in hair, clothing, makeup, shoes, cars, alcohol, drugs and more
Masturbating
Pornography
Lust
Anger
Unforgiveness
Rebellion
Idolatry

I gave here some examples of sins that many might not even think are wrong or usually they don’t hear much of them.

I would like you to look at the list, and think of even other sins, and see if any one of them is in your life and if so understand that without change in your life these will bring spiritual death. If you have noticed one or many of the above sins, ask God the Father for forgiveness and repent from them to receive true freedom in Christ Jesus.

For He is ready to take you in and give you the strength to overcome any temptation or trials that will come your way.

James 1:22- But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

We must become doers of what the Word of God teaches us and not only hearers. If we are only hearers,we will become our own deceivers. This is a danger to all who decide to ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit in their life. We know that the Holy Spirit will convict us of sin in our life, so when we receive the conviction and rebuke of an action or a thought, we should obey it.
