True Christians Should not Partake in Halloween Ever, It is that Simple!
(It not only opens the door to the demonic realm, but also takes part of things the word of God tells us never to partake off or be part off, in fact, it tells us to never give access to it)
1 Corinthians 10:21 – Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
Halloween: is it just a holiday/tradition to most, or does it have a deeper meaning that most don’t want to accept? You hear a lot of times that the Bible does not say much about this holiday or tradition but, in fact, it has much to say. Yes, the word Halloween does not appear or is ever mentioned in the Bible, but you will see that this tradition of Halloween is based on demons, spirits, and other forms of false beliefs. Before we go into the passages below, I would like us to go through and review the history and meaning of Halloween so we can then compare and truly see what the Word of God says about Halloween.
When studying the origin of Halloween you will see that it started from an ancient Celtic tradition, the festival of Samhain, which was celebrated over 2000 years ago. For some, this was a festival where you would wear costumes (that would scare the dead) and make bonfires to try to ward off ghosts in the area. The Celts believed that the dead spirits or familiar spirits were able to walk together with the living at that time which also meant that the living could visit and meet the dead. This was a time of dealing with the dead. They theorized that this was able to happen because the line or barrier between the realm of living and dead was weakened or disturbed.
While some back then, and even today, wait and prepare for that particular day so that their power is stronger, there were others even 2000 years ago that tried to ward off the demons with the festival of Samhain. Unfortunately, they were trying to beat evil with other forms of evil. Today, this would be considered ‘white magic,’ when ‘good’ witches try to help or ward off evil spirits. Because they are not fighting the devil with God’s power, their ‘good’ spells have no effect and can even cause more damage.
Fear:
Fear is what the whole concept or tradition of Halloween revolves around. Fear is a common portal for demonic works in our lives. Because of fear of winter and other hardship, including that spirits were able to interact with the non-dead because of the barrier that had been weakened, they allowed themselves to be influenced. This alone is also the opposite of the Word of God. Isaiah 35:4 say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you. On top of this 2 Timothy 1:7 says that the Spirit that God gives us is of not fear but of power, love and self control. But instead many do the opposite by trying to bring fear and through fear to control others. You may assume that the small amount of fear you recieve of being scared is harmless, but this is why so many today have nightmares, anxiety attacks that come through the stress of being scared – all because we decided to do something that seems harmless but it opened the door now to FEAR.
The weakened veil was also why many other Celtics believed that during this time Druids, including Celetic priests and others, were able to predict the future and other forms of fortune telling. Also, witchcraft spells were stronger as the realm was weaker, making it a stronger spell to call upon the dead. They did this also to try to lessen the hardship of the long winter season ahead. Isaiah 8:19-20 tells us not seek such things and if someone tells you it means that no light is in them.
At the same time, during the bonfires, there would be sacrifices of crops and animals to other gods (idolatry) to enhance the celebration which included donning costumes and animal skins. During this time it was also known to give fruits, sweets, or gifts that would satisfy or fulfill the spirits roaming around.
Apples:
Apples, especially, were a symbol of the Halloween festival which came from a pagan God called Pomona. This came about when the Roman festival blended with Celtic Samhain; Pomona was a Roman goddess of fruits and trees. The apple was the specific tree that was attributed to her. The apple also indicates other gods and is also in relation to divination, enchantment, and magic with mystery.
A little later in history, Pope Boniface IV established, and Pope Gregory III expanded, All Saints Day on November 1. This day eventually started taking on some of the tradition of Samhain, while the night before was known as Hallows Eve. This eventually grew to include more activities and what we call “trick or treat,” giving chocolate and candy as a way to substitute for fruits and other forms of sweets.
When Christianity took over most parts of the world, they tried to take over or replace the celtic festival with something that the church was able to control, which also included All Saints Day (aka All-Hallows), and All Souls’ Day. All of these traditions included parades and costumes of saints and angels and devils. What we do not realize is that when we put on the costume of a spirit or character we are also putting on that spirit over us, giving it access to us, allowing it to work now in us, no matter how harmless you may think it is. This was also a reason why even the celts and other villages and groups would wear costumes, for it gave a portal, a door, to the spirit to now work.
Pumpkin:
Before the pumpkin came to be a symbol of Halloween, the orginal fruit used was a carved turnip, decorated with a light (coal). The name of “jack o’ lantern” came from the folk story of Jack decieving the devil and eventually not being able to enter heaven becasue of the deals that Jack made with the devil – Jack made a deal that the devil could not claim his soul for hell. When Jack was refused entry to heaven, the devil gave him a piece of coal to light the way for Jack to find his way through purgatory. The pumpkin is also a sign of a Roman river godess, Orisha, which is just another example of how this festival was a combination of many religions and traditions.
So jack o’ lanterns were a sign of the souls that were stuck in purgatory that needed to be released – the tradition started with turnips in Ireland that were carved and was changed to pumpkins eventually. Three John 1:11 tells us not to imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God, whoever has done evil has not seen God. The reason these mixtures of tradition and religion have succeeded, even though they’re wrong, is because even though the light has come into the world, people love the darkness rather than the light – because their works are evil and who is like this, they are wicked doers and they hate the light for if they come into the light they shall be exposed (John 3:19-20).
All Saints’ Day eventually got more into ghosts, witches, warlocks, werewolves, vampires, zombies, half bloods, demons, sorceresses, charmers, enchanters, and many of the other familiar spirits that we see or hear about even today. We must be vigilant: in 2 Corinthians 11:14 it tells us that Satan himself can be transformed into an angel of light. The devil will try to deceive who he can by being an angel of light, passing what is wrong for good and good for evil, changing what is sweet for bitter and bitter to sweet, changing what is false to truth and truth to false. We can defeat him by submitting to our God and resisting the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
There is woe (warning), (Isaiah 5:20) woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. We can not mix what is from the devil with what is God’s, it does not work, just as it tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:21. When we look at Ephesians 5:6-12, it speaks that we should not be deceived by any empty words, for the wrath of God shall come upon the sons of disobedience and that we should not become partners with them. We were in the dark before we knew God and then we became His children; now we are of the light, of the Lord’s, which means we should shine like the light and be fruits of the light.
Now, there are a few other stories that can be found that relate to the beginnings and traditions of Halloween, but what has been written above is more than enough foundation for us to go into the Word of God and we can now see what is written about this holiday/tradition in the Bible.
Ephesians 5:11 – And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
1 Corinthians 10:21 – Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.
Mark 7:13 – Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
2 Corinthians 6:14 – Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Romans 13:12 – The night is far spent, thee day is at hand: let us put on the armour of light.
When we look at how this tradition started we see that it started, from the beginning, with ghosts, costumes, fortune telling, and so forth. From this alone we should see that this is already going against what the Word of God says. In Ephesians 5, we see that it tells us, first, not to have any fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness but we should rather reprove them. We know that a child of God should not take part of this unfruitful work of darkness; during today’s generation this holiday has been twisted to pretend that it is something harmless and fun for all, but on the contrary, it is very harmful and evil which opens the doors to many other spirits in the life of the ones that partake of this tradition. The passage further states that we should reprove it, which means we should rebuke it, cast it away from our lives. In fact, we should remove it from our lives and not be part of it at all.
In Mark 7, it tells us that we make the Word of God of none effect through following our traditions instead. There are times that people leave traditions as they are, because it is tradition, and it requires too much sacrifice on their part to remove and rebuke the tradition if it goes against God’s word. This is one reason why many have tried to prove to themselves and others that this tradition of Halloween has no effect on us and it’s harmless, for it is too difficult for them to admit to themselves that it is wrong. When we go further in the Word of God we see in 1 Corinthians 10 that we cannot drink the cup of Lord and the cup of the devils, and we can not be partakers of the Lord’s table and the table of the devils.
This is in fact what the ones that call themselves Christians or children of God do if they accept this holiday in their lives. But what many forget is that the verse speaks further that you can only be partakers of one cup and one table no matter what, they can not be put together. If you are a Christian, or you consider yourself in this category, then you must look and see which table you want to be part of: the unfruitful work of darkness, of evil and of the devils, or the table of God of fruits of the Spirit and works of the light.
When we look at the next passage, 2 Corintians 6:14, we see that it tells us that we should not be together, believers and unbelievers, for we are not yoked together, we do not work together. It continues to say, what fellowship can a righteous person have with the unrighteous and what communion can there be between light and darkness? This is revealing to us believers that we can not be together, we cannot have fellowship, communion, or be partakers of what the world and his devils do, for we are of righteousness, we are of the light, we are children of God. For Romans 13:12 states that we are no longer of the night and we must put it away and now put on the armor of light.
We must be true lights for God, no matter how difficult it may be. No matter who we must say it to, we must still rebuke what is not according to the Word of God; we must stay firm in Christ for He is the way and truth.
In Ephesians 4:27 it tells us to give no opportunity to the devil and in 1 Thessalonians 5:22 it tells us to abstain from every form of evil. For if we give room he will devour you; in 1 Peter 5:8, it says for us to be sober minded and be watchful, for if we do not, our adversary, which is the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he can devour. When we are not sober minded and not watchful and we become partakers of the traditions and holidays that are not according to the Word of God, we open the doors to these familiar spirits to come and have access to our life, soul (heart), body, mind, and Spirit.
Through this we allow access so that the spirits of:
Death, hate, torment, fear, sickness, jealousy, anger, sacrifice, adultery, idolatry, lust, addiction, witchcraft, enchanters, murder, rebellion, gossip, glutony, anxiety, sorcery, and hundreds more to come into our lives; no matter how small the effect is on us it will act like a ripple effect until it becomes too big to handle for us.
Even the symbols of what is used today during Halloween can bring a connection to all of these other spirits and more.
Gravestone = Death, fear, anxiety, necromancer
Candy/fruits = an offering that creates the portal for spirits to come through
Spiders/webs = fear, anxiety, torment, intrapment
Goblins/Witches/Vampires/Trolls = torment, fear, withcraft, greed, depression, glutony
Costumes = jealousy, anger, pride, lust, gossip, rebellion, and many more depending on the costumes
Pumpkin = conncected to a river goddess (Orisha/Oshun), divination, form of false protection and prosperity, and insight
Skeleton/skulls = death, fear, witchcraft, rebellion, divination, and others
There are many more but here are a few for us to just realize the danger of the tradition.
The Word of God teaches us that anything that is evil, unfruitful, of darkness, anything that expresses any form of spirit or has to do with witchcraft or any other form of power other than God, is evil. We should not allow the traditions of man or of this world to go over what God says. The Bible says that we are not to commune or have fellowship with this world for we are unequally yoked. You can not drink the cup of the Lord and the cups of demons, you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. We must choose one or the other.
WE MUST REMEMBER THAT WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD. In 1 Peter 2:9, it tells us that we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that we may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Let us remember that we know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19).
